Bio
Baldemar Motomochi is a PhD student in Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley, specializing in developmental biology. Their research focuses on how individual cells and cell populations acquire distinct identities and self-organize into complex systems that give rise to emergent behaviors.Baldemar is also a moderator of furryli.st, which builds furry-focused feeds that serve more than 60,000 members. They have spent years experimenting with online community design and governance: exploring interaction surface design, distributed governance, and structural approaches to preventing and managing community crises.
Baldemar's interest lies in the intersection of organisms, communities, and the social web as dynamic systems of sovereign yet interdependent components. They enjoy understanding these systems by deconstructing them, studying what roles each component plays under which conditions, and reconstructing them into a more resilient whole.
